The Patients’ Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital (PBS) is governed by some of the most respected and well-known figures of Pakistan who have dedicated their lives towards socio-economic development programmes within Pakistan and outside its borders.


M R Monem
Chairman PBS

Currently the Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Patients’ Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital, Mr Monem has been an ardent supporter of the Society since 2003. He joined as a member of PBS in 2004 and was appointed as the Chair of the Executive Committee in 2006.

He recently retired from the position of Area Operations Manager Middle East for MI Drilling Fluids, a leading Multinational Oilfield Service company with which he had been affiliated since 1974.

 

 
   


S. M. Pervez
Vice President, PBS

Mr Pervez is Vice President of the Executive Committee of The Patients’ Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital. He is a successful and renowned businessman and has been an active member of PBS since 2008.

Mr Pervez has promoted Pakistan in various export initiatives in leather and textiles. He is an active investor in the stock market. Mr Pervez was also appointed as the Justice of Peace for the Karachi Division by the Government of Sindh.

   
   

Sheikh Ali Hussain
Director, Resource Development
Aga Khan University

Sheikh Ali Hussain has been associated with the Aga Khan University (AKU) since 2012. He is the Director of Resource Development and is responsible for raising funds for various initiatives of AKU Pakistan. Mr Hussain was appointed the Honourary Secretary of the Patients' Behbud Society for AKUH in April 2016.

Mr Hussain received his early education at Aitchison College. He completed the MBA programme from LUMS. Mr Hussain is a Chevening Scholar and completed a MA Education degree from Durham University UK.

Mr Hussain has been associated with the higher education and health sectors of Pakistan for more than sixteen years. He has been associated with several high impact community development programmes and continues to provide advice to multiple non-profit institutions.

 
 

A Rahim Rafi
Chief Executive Officer,
Siddiqsons Energy

Mr A Rahim Rafi completed his undergraduate degree in Finance, after which he studied business strategy at London Business School.

He has been associated with the Siddiqsons Group of Companies since 2008 and is currently acting in the capacity of CEO, Siddiqsons Energy.

Mr A Rahim Rafi has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Patients’ Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital (PBS) since 2013.

 
   


Ms Yasmin Jaffer has completed a diploma in gemology from the Gemological Institute of America and has been successfully managing her own jewelry business for the last 25 years.  She is an active member of civil society: she has been a member of the Aga Khan University’s Annual Giving Committee and is also a member of the Aga Khan University Hospital’s Community Advisory Board (CAB). She supports the work of the Alleviate Addiction Suffering (AAS) Trust.

Anwar Rammal
Chairman and Director
Asiatic Public Relations Network (Pvt.) Ltd.

Mr Rammal is the Chairman and Director of Asiatic Public Relations Network (Pvt.) Ltd., one of the leading PR firms in Pakistan associated with Hill + Knowlton Strategies Worldwide (a WPP Group company).

Mr Rammal is one of the founding members, as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the Patients’ Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital (PBS) and Board Member of National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA). He is also a trustee of the Foundation for Museum of Modern Art (FOMMA) and a member of the Board of Governors of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad. Furthermore, Mr Rammal is a Member, Board of Governors of Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture (IVSA).

 
   
   


Ebrahim Sidat

Ebrahim Sidat is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) and has recently retired as the Country Managing Partner and CEO of Ernst & Young Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder (Ernst & Young - Pakistan), a position he has held for over 40 years since inception of the firm.

Mr Sidat was twice elected as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and served its Council from 1975 to 1993.

He is the former President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) and has also served as a member of the Accounting and Auditing Standards Board of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

The first Code of Corporate Governance (CCG) in Pakistan was formulated in 2002 under his chairmanship. He chaired another task force in 2012 of the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) resulting in the revised CCG 2012.

Mr Sidat has been a member of the Shariah Board of the State Bank of Pakistan for over a decade. He has also served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Commission on Higher Education, appointed by the President of Pakistan. Mr Sidat is one of the founding members of the Patients’ Behbud Society for AKUH and has led the exercise of developing the constitution and by-laws of the Society.

   
   

Nadeem M. Khan
Senior Advisor to VP Health Services
Aga Khan University

Mr Khan has been a member of PBS since its establishment.  He is also the Coordinator, Continuous Quality Improvement at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi, Pakistan. Mr Khan did his BA from Peshawar University and holds a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and is a Chartered Accountant by training.

 
   
   
Rehan Chawla
Director of Al-Karam Towel Industry

Mr Rehan Chawla is currently serving as the Director of Al-Karam Towel Industry – one of the largest towel exporters in the country. He is also Senior Vice President of the Pak-China Club – a forum to strengthen the diplomacy and business ties between Pakistan and China. He has studied commerce and has three decades of experience with private businesses.

Mr Chawla joined the Executive Committee of The Patients' Behbud Society for AKUH in 2017.

 
Zulfiqar Paracha

Mr Zulfiqar Paracha works with a family business that specialises in construction and commodities exports. The business operates from both Karachi and Islamabad. Mr Paracha completed his graduation from Karachi. He is committed to humanitarian and philanthropic work: he has served with the Lions Club for 25 years and joined the Rotary Club of Pakistan a year ago.

Mr Paracha became a member of the Executive Committee of The Patients' Behbud Society for AKUH in 2017.

   

Dr Muhammad Yahya Chawla completed his medical degree (MBBS) in 1987. He currently works as a Director at Burque Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd, a sales management and distribution company for consumer brands.

Dr Chawla became a member of the Executive Committee of The Patients' Behbud Society for AKUH in 2017.

Dr Aneela Darbar is currently an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. She is the first US trained female neurosurgeon of Pakistan.

She graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan and then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in neurosciences, followed by neurosurgery residency training at State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse.  She has worked with famous neurosurgeons, conducted cutting edge research and taught students within and outside Pakistan. She has been globally recognised for her medical and humanitarian work: she received the teaching and humanitarian award at SUNY Syracuse and Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from Dow Graduate Association of North America; she is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), Walter Dandy Neurosurgical society and American Association of Neurosurgeons; she also pioneered the Women in Neurosurgery (WINS) chapter within the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons (PSNS) and is an avid speaker at local and national conferences on women empowerment. She spends her spare time volunteering at charity clinics for the poor and underserved people of Karachi.
