Our Challenges

Pakistan faces considerable challenges in the provision of healthcare. Where healthcare is available, it is often marred by poor quality control, regulation and capacity. In the treatment of more complex illnesses in particular, private clinics and hospitals fill the void left by public healthcare systems. However, it is difficult for people from less privileged backgrounds to afford medical treatment at private hospitals.

Aga Khan University Hospital is well aware of this situation. In an effort to make the highest quality diagnosis and treatment available to all sectors of the population, AKUH has been providing welfare support to patients who are unable to afford their treatment. Welfare support provided by AKUH is generated from hospital revenues, or through AKUH bodies such as the Patient Welfare Programme and Patient’s Behbud Society. However, in order to meet the needs of a country with a rapidly growing population and rising cost of living, AKUH needs your support.
