Over 100,000 people die of cancer every year in Pakistan.
Cancer is a group of diseases characterised by uncontrolled growth and the spread of abnormal cells. The diagnosis, treatment and management of cancer is a complex, multidisciplinary effort that is often beyond the financial means of a suffering patient.
The Ibn Zuhr building on the Stadium Road campus houses The Aga Khan University Hospital’s (AKUH) oncology services and offers comprehensive care for cancer under one roof. AKUH also provides subsidized cancer treatments to patients in need through the Patient Welfare Programme and The Patients’ Behbud Society (PBS). AKUH helps educate the public about cancer, its symptoms, characteristics, available services and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
